In Shannon’s theory of information, the total amount of information about S
contained in X1,...,Xn is quantified by the mutual information:
MI(S : X1,...,Xn)
the total synergy of X1,...,Xn in terms of a
function Synergy(S : X1;...; Xn).
The basic idea is to construct such a
decomposition purely in terms of a function for shared information I∩(S : X1;...; Xn) that measures the
